Hanmer Springs

Acrylic on Genuine Taut-Art Canvas

1015 x 505 x 40 mm

Inspired by Hanmer Springs, this piece captures the quiet atmosphere of early morning light across the landscape.

  • Hanmer Springs holds a familiar presence within Te Waipounamu—its landscape both expansive and grounding. This work draws from a photograph by local artist James O’Dea, offering a starting point for exploring the character of the area.

The composition centres on a sunrise moment, where shifting cloud formations and low light create a sense of calm and transition. Painted during the golden hour, the work reflects that brief period where the landscape feels both still and full of possibility.

Subtle layers of gold leaf are incorporated into the surface, responding to light throughout the day and adding another dimension to the piece.

Created in support of the Koru Care Charity Auction, the work carries both a sense of place and a connection to community.
