Part of the small series Off the Deck, this work reflects the atmosphere of a New Zealand summer—deck chairs left in the sun, wetsuits drying after a surf, and the suggestion of gatherings shaped by music, conversation, and shared experience.

The composition brings together these everyday elements to evoke a sense of place—one that feels both specific and widely familiar. The presence of a surfboard featuring Taongaroa, atua of the sea, introduces a deeper layer within the scene, acknowledging the relationship between people and the ocean.
